Why Gold P/L Differs from Pips Times Ten
On a forex major, a pip is worth about ten dollars per standard lot, so traders learn to think in pips times ten. Gold breaks that habit. Because a lot is 100 ounces and the instrument is priced in whole dollars, the natural unit is the dollar move, not the pip, and one dollar is worth one hundred per lot. If your broker quotes a gold pip as 0.10, then ten of those pips make a one dollar move worth 100, which is where the confusion starts.
The reliable way to read gold profit is in dollars of price move times 100 times your lots. This calculator does exactly that from your entry and exit, so you never have to reconcile the pip convention. Enter the trade as you took it, set the direction, and read the result in your account currency.
